VDAC - Federation of German-American Clubs e.V.
When Germans talk about transatlantic relations, they often focus on the relationship between Berlin and Washington D.C., on the shared history between both countries and on narratives which date back to WWII or the Cold War. Yet so many other ties bind our German-American encounters. Student exchanges, U.S. military members and their families stationed in Germany or cultural exports shape new generations and influence their view on this unique partnership. Naturally, this partnership is not without shared and individual challenges - be it the role of NATO, the pandemic or the rise of populism. In this seminar, we will take a closer look at the challenging aspects of transatlantic relations, discuss what young people expect from the German-American relationship and how they experience this relationship in the year 2022 and beyond. The seminar aims to bring young Germans and Americans together to take a deep dive into these topics and share their thoughts and experiences.
