How to Be a Social Entrepreneur

by Theresa Richter (Intern)

Last Thursday, we were happy to welcome Professor Eric Staley, an expert on social entrepreneurship, non-/profit management and resource development, at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. In front of over 35 students and young entrepreneurs, he talked about the importance of passion and impact, which differentiate social entrepreneurship from conventional entrepreneurship. Due to his experience, Eric Staley, who served as a consultant in social service agencies as well as in for-profit corporations, was able to convey helpful insight in the business world and identify ways in which to subsist against competitors. He outlined the different forms of social entrepreneurship ranging from regional to international projects, some of which tackle existing problems and others demanding a policy change.
